Antioxidants And Exercise

I would be hard-pressed to find anybody who wants to age and look their age. Everybody - if I'm not mistaken, would want to have a longer, healthier life devoid of the debilitating ailments that come with aging. It's a battle we 'can' win if we try to understand how and why the human body ages and how to fight back. This article will discuss ways to fight back with the most powerful arsenal known to man - antioxidants!
I always like to relate aging in humans to a piece of metal discarded someplace outdoors to be exposed to the elements. Metal will rust over time. And likewise, humans will age. In this example, the number one culprit in the destruction of these two guinea pigs, as it were, is free radicals. Free radicals destroy. In the case of metal, a good lick of red-oxide would preserve the metal by blocking the onset of rust. And in the case of humans, antioxidants do the job nicely. Thank goodness for that!
Since aging is basically an accumulation of damage to macromolecules, cells, tissues and organs, to extend life or to increase your average lifespan, especially in humans, you want to slow down the aging process. First. Before you do anything else. And there are several ways to achieve this, but the absolute sure-fire way to go about it is to work it from within. Since you already know WHY your body is aging, now you need to look at ways to stop it from taking over your body and your life. This is where antioxidant supplements enhanced and optimized to fight free radicals can change the way you look on the outside, and the way feel on the inside. The idea is to use antioxidant supplements, such as Vitamin C, Vitamin E, lipoic acid and N-acetylcysteine, which, based on the free radical theory of aging, might extend human life stems.
Your next step, undoubtedly, would be to exercise your body in order to regain and or maintain your agility and strength. I like to call it the 'youth' factor. When you look at celebrities like Cher, yes, she has had cosmetic surgery but she sure as hell has the body to go with it. She works out! An effective reversed aging plan therefore, must include exercise... otherwise you're clutching at straws here, you want the total package to pull it off. Or don't you?
In summary: aging is accelerated by the elements. What scientific research has established -- in humans especially -- to be free radicals. The number one way to win the battle against aging is to top-up on antioxidants, as they are probably the most powerful ammunition known to man in neutralizing free radicals. Since aging is basically an accumulation of damage to macromolecules, cells, tissues and organs, to extend life or to increase your average lifespan, especially in humans, you want to slow down the aging process. That said, exercise should and must be included in your arsenal in the battle against what is perhaps the biggest buzz word in wellness circles today - aging.
