How to make the best decision about antidepressants?

I've been depressed, anxious and sometimes suicidal, literally, all my life. (First suicide attempt was at age 6.) I'm seeing a therapist. We talked about the possibility that depression is at least partly due to a chemical imbalance. I think this is true. It has been suggested that I try an antidepressant along with therapy. I've been doing lots of research to prepare. I want to be part of my health plan, and choose which medications are acceptable to me. So many sites and books, discuss side effects terrifying it is difficult to choose. I'm a little discouraged by the school thinking I'm weak for the choice of medication, or that my condition could be corrected if you just simply try. How can I make a good decision on which medicines to take? How can I stop feeling this fear and guilt to do the best for me?

hello, there are side effects with any antidepressant, however, usually only last about 2 weeks. to start working properly after 6-8 weeks and once you find the right one for you, can help you feel better. regarding the right for you, that would be the decision of your doctor. not every antidepressant works for everyone and is a case trial and error trying to find the right one. If after taking an antidepressant for 8 weeks did not feel any change, then your doctor may treat you in something different. Once that is right for you, then good far outweighs the bad. good luck and I hope this helps xxx
